Tamworth trials being sent 100-mile round trip away due to backlog

The Tamworth Herald reported this story here-

and commented here-

However, they failed to identify other important consequences of this policy.

Whatever happened to the government’s much vocalised ‘localism’ whereby they proposed that local people should have a greater say on local issues.

The closing of Tamworth’s Magistrates Court has obviously put such a burden on Burton’s court that cases now have to be heard up to 60 miles away.

While I applaud the Tamworth Herald’s condemnation of this obstruction to justice, they failed to highlight, in their opinion column on page 10 of Thursday, 4th’s issue, that the cases that were to be sent to these distant courts are cases where the accused pleads not guilty and a trial must take place. How is this justice? This is tantamount to punishment for daring to deny charges brought; it will, no doubt (and I believe the government understand this) encourage those charged with lesser offences to plead guilty rather than face the expense of and stress of such a journey.

Justice is dying in the U.K. and we area allowing it to happen; our rights are being eroded daily, with loss of benefits for daring to legally refuse a benefits advisors instructions or requests; courts held in difficult to reach places if you dare plead innocent; a determined, but so far unsuccessful attempt to take away workers rights for a few worthless shares.

I have used the word ‘dictatorship’ in previous communications; I use it again here with no less fervour. When your access to justice is restricted, that is another step, rather leap on the road to this despicable form of government.

Stop Fariman Saleh and her children from being deported

leave a comment »

We are calling for support to petition UK Border Agency, Westminster, and the Welsh Government from unlawfully deporting Fariman Saleh and her two children.

At present, there is no confirmation if the family has already been put on a plane whilst Fariman’s eldest daughter, solicitors, and campaigning groups are working around the clock to bring this case to justice.

The story

Cardiff, 18th October, 6 am. UK Border Agency (UKBA) raids an address in Cardiff – the home of Fariman Saleh and two of her children Ibrahim and Lyali.

It’s early in the morning, but the officers don’t pass unnoticed by the neighbourhood, and the friends of the family are all out in the street to protest that the family not be taken away, 20 days before a hearing date for a judicial review of Fariman’s case.

Just when you thought the DWP/Atos death trail couldn’t get worse… 73 Deaths a week, 6,643 deaths in this tiny part of the welfare sector alone, since the beginning of last year.

with one comment

This cartoon was clearly devised before the latest figures came out. They are diabolical and make the punchline here look quaint in its optimism.According to an FOI (Freedom of Information) response publicised by the journalist Sonia Poulton on October 7, the current weekly average Atos/DWP death toll of people found fit for work after an ESA work capability assessment now stands at 73 people per week.

In particular, I would like you all to read Sarah’s comment. If you’re not disgusted, you must be a Tory.

Crime and Criminality

Of course, the full facts aren’t known yet. But this assault case has echoes of racism.
I’m sure a comment like ‘I’m going to fucking kill you black bitch’ would have rendered such an attack racially motivated. So why is it ‘I’m going to fucking kill you white bitch’ isn’t?
It’s time the law was applied equally; not just in this case; not just in racist attacks; but when a benefits defrauder is treated differently to an MP that fiddles their expenses; when a rioter is given a more severe sentence than might be expected normally for the same offence; when a crime against profits is treated more severely than a crime against the person.
And especially when crime is always seen as the evil within a person rather than the evil within an unjust society.

There is little I can say about THIS report. A fantastic opportunity for two students to show this sham government they are WRONG WRONG WRONG!
I can only hope the judges, who after all are supposed to be unbiased and apply the law as it is, not as governments would like it to be will do just that.
