UNITED NATIONS special envoy Raquel Rolnik will call on the Con-Dems to scrap the tax, which she believes breaches the basic right to housing.

This is fantastic news!

Daily Record- United Nations Landmark decision on Bedroom Tax

The Guardian- UN expert says UK’s bedroom tax threatens human rights,

I have one issue with the decision and that is “…the policy breaches the basic right to housing as there are not enough smaller properties for tenants to move into.”

I would much prefer the decision to have been based on a basic right to stay in one’s own home irrespective of the changes to family that we all know will happen and without financial penalty and I would go so far to say, as the biggest under-occupiers in the land are fully aware, a spare room (and these rooms, as we all know are rarely ‘spare’ except by government definition) is not extravagant. This should have been catered for by retaining and increasing council stock to take this into account.
